Trying to build a bankroll can be tough.
One of the better ways to do it is to play satellites into larger dollar contests.
Now you will want to register for these early, as sometimes DK will put up new ones and sometimes they don’t. It’s also worth noting that sometimes there are overlay on these – especially in the non-main/non-classic slates!
It pays to pay attention!
This morning I noted the following NHL to NHL satellites. There are some cross-sport satellites as well and if you play those other sports then you can enter them too. If they aren’t sports you normally play – then I would save your money for something else to play.
There are a few more higher dollar ones as well.
There are also NUMEROUS ones at the same price points in the Turbo, Late, Later, Tiers and Showdown slates. These can be VERY profitable as well with a small amount of effort. Making one simple correlated lineup using Paydire projections and putting it in the satellites plus the GPP in those slates can add a lot of value.
Couple different strategies
- Play one lineup in every satellite and hope to smash and win them all (note you will want different lineups in the multi-entry ones – no point in chopping with yourself!)
- Play different lineups in every satellite and hope to grab one or two
Obviously number two is less risky than number one – but number one could have a higher ceiling – you just need to manage/have the bankroll to invest in chasing the tickets.
Some of the tickets aren’t playable for a couple of weeks (the $888) or until February (the $555) so if you are putting in a few hundred into winning tickets, it’s long term beneficial, but you don’t want to leave yourself short on bankroll to play slates day-to-day in the interim.
May be stating the obvious here but one other thing I would recommend is to make sure any lineups in your satellite contests are also ones you are playing in your GPPs. Feels bad to win a ticket with a rocket lineup that would’ve made a bunch of cash in a GPP. It can also help offset some of that investment as if you are winning a ticket you are definitely at least cashing in a GPP.
Slate Specific Thoughts:
14 games. PAIN.
Option A – Top 7 from each full line (7 from each of FL1, FL2, FL3)
Option B: Top 20 lines by median projection.
Colorado 1 is PAINFULLY expensive for being on the road.
Boston 1 is gonna be PAINFULLY high owned for a 14 game slate.
Maybe skip those two and fire away on Jersey/Tor/TB
From Option A: that Dallas 3 line getting a lot of minutes is probably my favourite of the third line plays. WPG3 would be my other choice here.

So many defencemen.
Even though there are lots of D here, make sure to add Dougie into your pool.
Goalie
Varlamov highest projected vs the Hurricanes? At $7200. I don’t like it. Plenty of other choices here – if you let your optimizer run wild with these projections you will probably get a LOT of Varlamov. Buyer beware.
